Itinerary - wednesday arrivals
Day 1. Wednesday. Arrive Israel. (D) Arrive Tel Aviv airport where you will be met and transferred to the beautiful city of Jerusalem. Buffet dinner at the hotel.
Day 2. Thursday JERUSALEM (BD) Drive up the Mt of Olives, one of the most meaningful places in Jerusalem for a panoramic view over the old city including the Kidron Valley, Temple Mount, and city walls. Stroll down the mountain to the Garden of Gethsemane and Church of All Nations before continuing to the Upper Room on Mt Zion, where it was believed wasthe room of the Last Supper. Walk throgh the Jewish Quarter of the old city including the "Cardo" mewaning the heart of this Byzantine city and view the unearthed Roman thoroughfare and ancient market place lined with columns. Continue through the stairways to the Western Wall promenade, considered the holiest place by the Jews. We take a reflective walk along the Via Dolorosa (the way of the cross) while experiencing the colourful bazaars, alleyways, and marketplaces with the opportunity to bargain. Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. many believe this was the site of golgotha where Jesus was crucified and resurrected.
Continue to the Garden Tomb which is an alternative site many believe was the site where Jesus was crucified and resurrected and enjoy the quiet reflective atmosphere of the garden, and the empty tomb. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and reflect. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3. Friday. JERUSALEM - BETHLEHEM (BD) Another day full of history and meaning as you visit Ein Kerem, birthplace of John the Baptist and take a sobering walk through Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum. See also the Street of the Righteous dedicated to non Jews that risked their lives in order to save their Jewish neighbours. Continue to the Israel Museum to see the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea Scrolls are housed and the model of Jerusalem as it was at the time of Jesus Christ. Take a short drive to Bethlehem, birthplace of Jesus Christ, and visit the Church of the Nativity. Return to your hotel and enjoy a special Shabbat dinner.
Day 4. Saturday. MASSADA AND THE DEAD SEA (BD) Early breakfast at the hotel before driving south to the Dead Sea to 398 metres below sea level - the lowest place on earth. Visit Qumrun where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and ascend by cable car to the legendary fortress on the mountain top of Massada where the Jewish Zealots held out for 3 years against the Romans. This is your opportunity to 'swim' or at least float in the Dead Sea 11-13% salt and other ingredients. Return to Jerusalem for dinner.
Day 5. Sunday. JERUSALEM - GALILEE (BD) Descend from Jerusalem on the road to ancient Jericho and travel through the Jordan Valley where the desert now blooms with flowers and vegetation. Visit Beit Shean, one of the largest archaeological digs in israel. Visit the ampitheatre, colonnaded Roman Streets, mosaics, and Roman bathhouses.. Continue to Yardenit, a baptism site on the Jordan River and to Nazareth, boyhood home of Jesus. Visit the grotto of the Annunciation and churches located over the traditional site where Joseph and Mary lived. See also the ancient city well, believed to be the site where the angel appeared to Mary.Also visit Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine. Continue to Upper Galilee and check in to our kibbutz hotel near the main city of the area,, Tiberias.
Day 6. Monday. GALILEE - BANIAS (BD) Start the day with a short tour of Tiberias and enjoy a boat cruise on the Sea of Galilee. Visit Capernaum where Jesus lived and taught, main site in Galilee and see the remains of the 2nd century synagogue and what many people is Peter's House. Continue to Tabgha, site of the miracle of the 'Loaves and Fishes' to see the Church of the Multiplication with its 4th century mosaic floor. Continue to the Mt of Beatitudes where jesus gave his famous Sermon on the Mount and on to Banias Springs and Caesarea Phillipi, one of the sources of the Jordan River. return to our hotel for dinner.
Day 7. Tuesday. AKKO - HAIFA - MEGIDDO - CAESAREA (BD) Depart Galilee with a last look over the lake to the ancient Roman and Crusader city of Akko. Visit the Crusader castle with its underground passages and secret rooms, as well as the prison. This is where Leon Uris's famous novel "Exodus" was flimed. Continue to Mt Carmel for a panoramic view over Haifa and the gardens below. here Elijah fought the 400 false prophets of Baal. Travel across part of the Plains of Jezreel to ancient Megiddo, one of King Solomon's fortified cities. See some of the 20 levels of civilisation and read about the final battle of Armageddon in Daniel and Revelation.last stop for the day is the well preserved ancient city of Caesarea, built by Herod and once capital of Judea. Here Paul embarked on his journey to Tarsus and Cornelius and his family lived. It is also where Pontius Pilate had a base. Explore the restored Roman Ampitheatre and marvel at its acoustic and theatrical sound, walk through the fortress and see the amazing aqueduct. Late afternoon we travel to Tel Aviv and check in to the hotel for your final dinner on tour.
Day 8. Wednesday. ISRAEL DEPART (B) The tour ends after breakfast and you will be transferred to the airport.
You are welcome to stay over in Israel and explore on your own, or travel to Jordan to amazing Petra.
Sunday arrivals. Arrive Tel Aviv and transfer to your hotel travelling to Galilee monday and in Jerusalem from wednesday to sunday.All sightseeing of the wednesday arrivals is included.
